As many of you know, Amie, Stefanie and I are passionate about adoption and caring for the orphan. That’s why we support the charities we do: An Orphan’s Wish and SixtyFeet.
And these aren’t just organizations that we’ve heard about…these are organizations that we love and are very much involved with.
I (Colleen) had the privilege of going on a missions trip to Uganda with SixtyFeet in October. It was an incredible trip. We spent the majority of our time ministering to the children in prison, giving them attention, love and sharing the gospel.
If you are unfamiliar with the ministry of SixtyFeet, please visit their website. They are an incredible organization that brings hope and restoration to the wrongly imprisoned children of Uganda, in Jesus’ name.
Yep, you read it correctly…imprisoned children.
These are children who have been either rounded up by the police for being on the streets, or dropped off by a family member. SixtyFeet has a staff on the ground in Uganda who have a constant presence in the five prisons (spread throughout the country), bringing godly counseling, medical care, fellowship, and even a weekly worship service. They work to get sponsors for the children, in order to get them released and into a boarding school or a loving foster family. The sponsorship money provides boarding school fees, food and medical care.
The ultimate goal of SixtyFeet is to bring the gospel of Jesus to these children. And between now and eternity, the goal is to find a long-term, sustainable solution for these children. To give them hope, in an otherwise hopeless situation.
SixtyFeet has recently been blessed with an incredibly generous matching donation of $60,000, to be matched by people like you and me by the end of this year. Which means, if $60,000 can be raised by December 31st, SixtyFeet and their ministry will receive a total of $120,000!
And do you know what that means for them?
It means that they will be able to purchase a beautiful plot of land, overlooking Lake Victoria, and break ground for their first official children’s home…a place where children who have nowhere to go, can be signed out of the prison facilities and live like a family. This will be the first of several small homes, Lord willing, that will be built in order to raise up a “family” of responsible, educated, well-loved, Jesus-filled children, who once were lonely, hopeless and desperate.
Would you be willing to help?
They don’t have far to go to reach this goal, and every penny adds up.
This link will take you to their site where you can make a secure donation online.
Another easy way to help is to vote for SixtyFeet to win a grant on the Cultivate Wines site. They are giving away several thousand dollars worth of grants and the organization with the most votes wins $10,000!
You can vote one time each day, and the contest ends on December 31st, which means we only have a few more days left to vote. It takes less than a minute of your time and is worth every second in order to help these vulnerable children of Uganda. Set a reminder on your phone, put it on your calendar, tell good ol’ Siri to remind you…whatever you need to do…just don’t forget to go and vote every day until December 31st. And help spread the word, too! Share it on Facebook, post about it on your blog, or get all Twitterpated and Tweet about it.
At Wild Olive, we are proud and honored to partner with SixtyFeet. They are truly the hands and feet of Jesus, as they minister and bring hope to these precious and vulnerable children.
